New York brings new friends to One to One

An evening of African art, generosity and connection in New York brought many new friends into the One to One family. Held at Southern Guild, it was a wonderful opportunity to share our work alongside the Siya Kolisi Foundation and other inspiring South African organisations, united by a commitment to a brighter future.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Nick, Olivia and the Steadfast team for bringing everyone together; to Trevyn, Anna and Southern Guild for the beautiful setting; and to Msaki, Mahlatse and everyone who made the evening so special. The warmth and enthusiasm of the Lekker network, and the foundations’ friends and supporters, made for an evening full of meaningful conversations and new connections.

A special thank you goes once again to Angama, whose magnificent auction prize — a five-night safari stay in Kenya — raised $10,000 for One to One, alongside the generous pledges made on the evening.

Speaking to guests, our founder David Altschuler drew a connection between the artworks surrounding them and One to One’s purpose: reaching communities too often overlooked. He shared how our Mentor Mothers support mothers and children in South Africa’s deep rural communities, helping families access health services, nutrition and early learning during the critical first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

Reflecting on a world increasingly shaped by technology and AI, David reminded guests: “We will need more than new tools: we will need wisdom, humanity and Ubuntu — the understanding that our futures are connected.”

David and Jenny left New York highly energised by the engagement, generosity and possibilities for working together. To everyone who joined us, pledged support or introduced new friends to our work: thank you for helping turn that spirit of Ubuntu into practical care for children and families.
