OMAR SHARIF

1932 – 2015

Egyptian born Omar Sharif is synonymous with Hollywood classics such as Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago.

In 2005 he was awarded a UNESCO medal in recognition of his significant contribution to world film and cultural diversity.

Before his death in 2015 Omar was one of our patrons. He was particularly interested in our work with Israeli and Palestinian children.

Omar hosted our annual backgammon tournament which raised over a million pounds between 2001 and 2009 – the foundation for so much that we have been able to achieve for traumatised children in Kosovo and the Middle East, and for HIV affected children all over Africa.
