Lauren
steps up to the Board
After almost 3 years as Director of One to One Children’s Fund,
Lauren Jacobson has joined the Board of Trustees
“It is over 2 and a half years
since I joined One to One Children’s Fund, the first 6 months as co-Director
in a job share and subsequently as the Director. And an exhilarating,
challenging and tremendously rewarding time it has been. I have, in my
professional life, worked as a lawyer in private practice in South Africa
and as a consultant to government in the UK. This was my initiation into
the third sector and I can say without hesitation that the job presented
some of the greatest challenges, opportunities and variety that I have
ever encountered.

It has been a joy to witness and participate in some
great moments in the life of One to One Children’s Fund. Our supporter
base has grown and expanded, our office is staffed with a small but amazingly
hardworking and dedicated team, Nathalie and Liz C, supported by our
accountant Liz H and committed Clinical Director Jenny and, most importantly,
we continue to increase the number of children we look after as we improve
the quality of care and intervention we provide.
One to One Children’s
Fund has an extraordinarily engaged group of trustees under the inspirational
chairmanship of David Altschuler. The charity is a terrific blend of
vision and focus, ambitious reach and tenacious grasp, a tight ship on
a great journey.
These are tough economic times and it is true and understandable
that in such times we can become more insular and inward looking. However,
it has never been more crucial to maintain our involvement in the regions
in which we work. Without us, the children we support have no hope and
no voice. By helping us to help them, we all maintain a vital connection
to our broader world, the one beyond our narrow interests.
Thank you
to all of you who have been part of my time at One to One Children’s
Fund and to David, Kevin, Rita and Lawrence for inviting me to join them
on the Board of Trustees from where I look forward to continuing to contribute
to the charity’s growth.“
