This summer 15 One to One Children's Fund supporters took part in the world's largest Triathlon to raise vital funds for the charity.

Over the weekend of 7th/8th August the London Triathlon, with 10,000+ competitors, took place in and around the Excel Centre at London's Royal Victoria Dock.  15 amazing One to One Children's Fund supporters were there, not only challenging themselves to swim (in the Thames no less), bike or run – and sometimes all three – but also raising an impressive £7,000 to go towards our Expert Patient Programme in Africa.

Expert Patients are HIV+ carers employed to support the work of doctors and nurses in HIV clinics. The money raised from the Triathlon can fund the annual stipend for at least 3 Expert Patients recruited and trained to help over-stretched doctors and nurses in some of the 50 clinics One to One supports across sub-Saharan Africa, where children affected by HIV receive life-saving anti-retroviral treatment. We now have 200 Expert Patients and every one helps to care for at least 100 children – so the sponsorship raised so far can help save the lives of an additional 300 kids.

So huge congratulations and thank you to Lauren Kocher, Lauren Matus, Ronnie Kessler, Tim Graham, Ben Wulwik, Charlie Wilson, Judy Ingber and Geoffrey Matus, James Reichman, James MacKonchie and Sarah Deeming, in good company with 121CF Chairman David Altschuler, Glen Cooney, Aleksandra Ignacka and Laurie Marshbaum.

You can add to that total. It’s not too late to sponsor our team and save more lives.

But we weren’t content with just one continent raising money that weekend! Over in Australia Ed Marshbaum ran the 16km City2Surf in Sydney on the same day, ran a personal best and raised a further £800!   And let’s not forget our two trekkers in Tanzania, Heidi Stone and Sarah Waterman, who climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in June raising an amazing £4560.

Could this be you and your friends? The London Triathlon offer individual and team relay places, on Olympic, Sprint and SuperSprint distances, so all ages & abilities can take part – why not email us to register your interest for next year?
